HPCSA Registered Genetic Counsellor
based in South Africa offering Virtual Appointments
Welcome to Sam the GC I’m Sam Bayley, a registered genetic counsellor (HPCSA GC0000752). I provide personalised, evidence-based genetic counselling to help you understand your genetics and make informed health decisions. I offer remote consultations for individuals and couples throughout South Africa.
What is Genetic Counselling (GC) & who is it for?
Genetic counselling is a conversation-based healthcare service that helps you understand how your genes may impact your health, your children’s health, and your family’s health. It’s about turning complex genetic information into clear, personalised guidance; so you can make confident, informed decisions about testing, screening, or next steps.
A genetic counsellor can help you:
Understand how hereditary conditions may affect you, your children, or your wider family
Explore whether genetic testing is appropriate for your personal situation
Make sense of genetic test results and what they mean for your health decisions
Navigate sensitive choices during pregnancy or family planning
Assess your individual or family risk for inherited cancers or other conditions
Genetic Counselling May Be Right For You If:
- You’re pregnant or planning to be and want to understand your genetic screening options. Especially if you’re over the age of 35, or have had abnormal test results, a previous affected pregnancy, or known family risks.
- You or a close family member has had cancer at a young age or multiple cancer diagnoses.
- You want to know the risks for future children to have a genetic condition before starting a family.
- You have a known genetic condition in the family.
- You’ve been referred by a doctor, or you’re simply looking for clarity and support.
No referral is needed! Self-booked appointments are welcome!
All sessions are remote, so you can get expert, personalised support wherever you are in South Africa.

Medical Aid Invoices Available

How It Works:
1. Book Your Appointment
Get in touch to schedule your session. Before your appointment, you’ll receive an email with a secure video consultation link, a brief form to complete in advance, and the EFT payment details. This helps us make the most of our time together.
2. Your Consultation
We’ll meet over a private, secure video call. I’ll guide you through your personal and family history; including any relevant information such as previous cancers, miscarriages, birth conditions, or other health concerns. This background helps shape our discussion and ensures it’s tailored to your specific situation.
I’ll explain any relevant genetic testing options, help you understand what they can (and cannot) tell you, and support you in making informed, confident decisions, at your own pace.
3. Follow-Up & Next Steps
If genetic testing is recommended, I’ll provide the appropriate forms and guidance. I can also help you request a quote from the lab that you can submit to your medical aid for authorisation. Once results are available, I’ll follow up with you directly to discuss them in detail.
